About NAD

"National Academic Depository (NAD)" is an initiative of Ministry of Human Resources Development, Govt. of India (MHRD), launched by Shri Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister, MHRD on 9th Sept 2016. (Press Release)

NAD is a Unique, Innovative and Progressive step towards achieving Digital enablement of the Education Records. NAD aspires to make the vision of Digital Academic Certificates for every Indian a reality. This touches the lives of Indian youth and empowers them with Digital, Online, Trusted, Verifiable Certificates which are accessible in a secure manner at all times. NAD promises to do away with difficulties / inefficiencies of collecting, maintaining, and presenting physical paper certificates. NAD is not only a database copy of the certificate records for Academic Institutes but a complete system for Issuing Online Certificates to well identified and registered students. It will be an active online place for Students, Academic Institutes and Verification Users. NAD brings in a deterrence factor for people who wish to think that paper certificates can be easily forged / created .NAD also brings trust and credibility to genuine certificate holders and makes their certificates trusted and easily accepted.

NAD will develop an online portfolio of all education certificates across Academic Institutes (Universities / Institutes / Boards) which can be submitted easily for employment, higher education, and loan and are easily trusted and verified. NAD integrates directly with Boards / Universities which issue Certificates and hence ensures Authenticity of Certificate Records.

University / Boards will directly lodge the academic awards in NAD system in a secure online process. The records will identify the details of the students to whom such records belong by indicating the Aadhaar number of the certificate holder. Records can be accessed by concerned students, and verifiers (academic institutions granting admission for higher education, prospective employers, background checkers etc.) based on consent of the student.

MHRD has appointed NDML for setting up and implementing the depository
